Click Update and Security then Backup. Turn on Automatically back up my files. Windows will ask you to select the drive. Choose the external drive and click OK. The first backup may take two or three hours depending on how many files you have.

Test Your Backup and Keep It Safe
A backup does no good if you cannot restore from it. Once a month open a few random files from your backup and make sure they open correctly. For external drives keep the drive unplugged when you are not using it to protect against power surges.
Store cloud account passwords in a separate place such as a notebook or a password manager. Replace external drives every four to five years because they wear out just like the computer.
