Senator John Fetterman Comments on Potential Party Affiliation

Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) said he'd leave the Democratic Party if it becomes the 'anti-Israel party,' though he signaled he had no plans to imminently depart the caucus. Fetterman acknowledged the Democrats' difficult Senate math when speaking Wednesday at The Hill Nation Summit.

He continued, saying he is committed to the Democratic Party, but has a clear boundary regarding Israel. If the party were to officially become 'anti-Israel,' that's when he would consider leaving. Fetterman's office did not immediately respond to requests to elaborate on what that boundary looks like for him.

Fetterman's comments come as Democrats have grown more disillusioned and angry toward Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This is evidenced by a recent vote to prevent the State Department from funding the nation, which saw over 100 House Democrats vote in favor of the measure.

While Fetterman's cross-aisle voting has earned him a softer reception from some on the right, his own party has been critical of him. After Fetterman cast the deciding vote to advance Markwayne Mullin's nomination for DHS secretary, Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Pa.) called for Fetterman to leave the party.
