Setting up cloud photo backup takes about 30 minutes the first time, plus a few hours of background uploading depending on how many photos you have.
For iCloud Photos on iPhone: Open the Settings app on your iPhone. Tap your name at the top, then iCloud, then Photos. Toggle on 'iCloud Photos.' That is essentially the entire setup.
