Oma's Pride recalls one lot of frozen raw dog food after Salmonella finding

Wednesday, August 19, 2026 · 3 sources

Oma's Pride is recalling one lot of Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe 6-pound bags after FDA testing found Salmonella. The FDA said 639 bags sold in 11 states and online are covered.

AVON, Conn. - Pet food maker Oma's Pride is voluntarily recalling one lot of frozen raw dog food after federal testing found Salmonella, the Food and Drug Administration said.

The recall covers Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe in 6-pound bags, lot BB012729. USA Today reported 639 bags sold in 11 states and through the company website. Miller Foods, Inc., makes the Oma's Pride brand.

Oma's Pride said the FDA received a consumer complaint, collected a sample, and found Salmonella. Dogs that eat contaminated food can develop vomiting, fever, and diarrhea that may be bloody. People can also get sick by handling contaminated food or touching surfaces and then their mouths, which is a special concern for older adults, young children, and anyone with a weaker immune system.

The company urged customers not to feed the recalled lot to pets. Return it for a refund or dispose of it in a way that pets, wildlife, and children cannot reach. Wash hands with soap after handling pet food. Clean bowls, scoops, countertops, and freezer areas that touched the product.

Salmonella outbreaks tied to pet food are uncommon relative to total bags sold, but raw diets carry higher handling risks than many cooked kibble products. Check the lot code on the bag rather than relying on memory of where it was bought.

Owners whose dogs show symptoms after eating the product should call a veterinarian and mention the recall. People with fever, diarrhea, or vomiting after handling the food should contact a doctor. The FDA recall page remains the best source for lot details and updates.

The 50+ takeaway: Check freezers for Oma's Pride Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe 6 lb bags, lot BB012729. Do not feed it. Wash hands and bowls if you already used it.
