Robot-assisted platform completes 26 cataract surgeries under surgeon control

Cataract surgery remains one of the most common operations worldwide, with more than 30 million procedures a year by company estimates. ForSight Robotics now says its JASPER robotic surgical platform has completed 26 fully robotic-assisted cataract surgeries in human patients, Fox News CyberGuy reported.

According to the company, every procedure finished robotically without converting to conventional manual surgery. Patients received topical anesthesia or mild sedation and went home the same day, matching the outpatient pattern already familiar to millions of cataract patients.

JASPER is not autonomous. Surgeons direct the case through telemanipulation. The system translates those commands into fine instrument motions inside the eye, with high-definition 3D visualization, tremor filtering, movement scaling, real-time eye tracking, and computer vision support. The company says the platform is designed to perform the complete cataract procedure rather than only one step.

ForSight announced its first-in-human robotic cataract case earlier this year and has added more cases to reach 26. That sample is still small. The 100 percent robotic-completion figure means no case switched mid-surgery to hand instruments. It does not by itself prove better vision outcomes or higher safety than standard surgery.

JASPER remains under design and development and has not been approved for commercial use. Larger studies and regulatory filings are still ahead. For patients needing cataract care now, the standard surgeon-led outpatient procedure remains the available option. Families can ask clinics how they screen for complications, which lens implants they offer, and how recovery is managed while watching whether robotic platforms later clear regulators.
