Borg burst onto the scene as a teenage prodigy, and in 1974 at just 18 he won his first major at the French Open. His cool, baseline-driven game and rock-star following turned him into tennis's first global superstar through the late 1970s.

Teen Sensation

Born in Stockholm, Borg developed his two-handed backhand and heavy topspin as a self-taught youngster. By his late teens he was already a Davis Cup hero and Grand Slam champion.

King of the 1970s

Borg combined ice-cold composure with relentless fitness, winning 11 majors before age 26. His good looks and long hair drew screaming crowds, earning him comparisons to a rock star.

Sudden Exit and Legacy

Burned out by the grind and his fierce rivalry with McEnroe, Borg shocked the sport by retiring at 26. He later built a successful fashion brand and remained a revered figure in tennis.
