The Turning Point

In 1994, Keanu Reeves transformed from amiable comedic actor into a bona fide action star with the runaway hit Speed. The role as LAPD officer Jack Traven proved he could carry a blockbuster, paving the way for his career-defining turn as Neo in The Matrix five years later.

From Beirut to Hollywood

Keanu Charles Reeves was born in Beirut in 1964 to a costume-designer mother and grew up largely in Toronto. After early stage and television work, he moved into film in the mid-1980s.

Action Stardom

Point Break and Speed established him as a credible action lead in the early 1990s. The Matrix in 1999 then made him a global icon and reshaped the science-fiction genre.

The Beloved Everyman

Beyond the screen, Reeves earned a reputation for humility and generosity. Decades later, the John Wick franchise gave him a triumphant second act as an action star.
