The Turning Point

After years of stage work and supporting parts, Jackson delivered a searing performance as a crack addict in Spike Lee's 'Jungle Fever' (1991), winning a special Cannes award. That recognition led to his electrifying turn as hit-man Jules Winnfield in 'Pulp Fiction' (1994), which made him a star and earned an Oscar nomination.

A Long Apprenticeship

Born in D.C. and raised in Tennessee, Jackson spent two decades in theater and small film roles. He overcame addiction before his breakthrough as the addict Gator in 'Jungle Fever.'

The Tarantino Connection

His commanding, profane monologue as Jules Winnfield in 'Pulp Fiction' became iconic and earned an Oscar nomination. The role launched a prolific run and a lasting partnership with director Quentin Tarantino.

A Franchise Mainstay

Jackson became a fixture of two of cinema's biggest sagas as Mace Windu in 'Star Wars' and Nick Fury in the Marvel films. The Academy honored his vast body of work with an Honorary Oscar in 2022.
