The Republican Governors Association had spent millions on ads attacking Hong, which some Democrats said actually helped boost her campaign. However, the bet did not pay off, as Crowley won the primary.
Crowley was backed by Governor Tony Evers, who said he offered Democrats their best chance to win. Hong, on the other hand, did not receive endorsements from prominent left-wing figures such as Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
