Police say thieves ransacked Florida home of couple killed in Kenya helicopter crash

Coral Gables police say two people ransacked the Florida home of a couple killed in a Kenya helicopter crash last week, stealing cars, jewelry, electronics and artwork, including a sculpture valued at more than $500,000.

Henry Parra, 55, and Adam Hlavaty, 42, died in the mountainside safari crash Wednesday along with five others. Police said the burglary at their Coral Gables residence happened sometime between Thursday and Saturday. Arrested were Geybert Alexander Garcia, 40, and Melany Perdomo, 24, according to the New York Post and WPLG.

An arrest report said the pair removed personal and business documents, jewelry, electronics and artwork, plus a 2023 Land Rover and a 2020 Porsche Taycan. Tracking pings from a stolen MacBook and the Land Rover led officers to a nearby home where both stolen vehicles were parked outside. Inside, police recovered valuable artwork and tools used to produce or alter fraudulent documents, plus a Ford F-150 reported stolen from elsewhere.

In court Wednesday, Garcia's attorney presented a document purporting to show one of the crash victims had authorized Garcia to use a vehicle and be on the property. Family friend Lauren Bailey told WPLG that was impossible because the couple were out of the country when the paper was supposedly signed. Bailey said the door was destroyed, a camera was ripped off and relatives arriving from Indiana found the house torn apart. She told the court the family did not feel safe if the suspects were released.

Detective Wilfredo Diaz told the court he believed the document was fake. The judge ordered both suspects held without bond.

The Kenya crash also killed Telemundo executive Jose Suarez, Ecuadorian intelligence official Michele Sensi-Contugi and his wife, Stephany Maria Hollihan Vasconez, food entrepreneur Roger Edward Duarte, and pilot Josh Outram. The cause remains under investigation.
