Former Rep. Jim Renacci considers House comeback bid

Former Rep. Jim Renacci told Axios in a phone interview Monday night that he may mount a comeback run for Congress if Rep. Max Miller drops his bid for reelection. Renacci, who has good name recognition in the district, would likely be a serious contender to take Miller's place on the ballot.

Miller is facing allegations of domestic abuse, which he has denied. Despite the allegations, Miller has maintained he plans to run for reelection, but President Trump told him in a phone call on Monday that his reelection would be tough. Several House Democrats have called for Miller to resign from Congress, with some lawmakers floating expulsion.

Renacci said he is getting calls from people asking him to consider running if Miller steps out. He told Axios that if Miller were to step out and ask him to step in, he would consider it. However, Renacci said he does not believe Miller is leaving the race. There is currently polling in the field testing Renacci's viability as a candidate.
