Nintendo Releases Splatoon 3 With New Features

Nintendo released Splatoon 3 for the Nintendo Switch on Sept. 9, 2022. The game is the third main entry in the series that mixes third-person shooting with ink-based turf wars.

Players control Inklings or Octolings who can switch between kid and squid forms. In the main modes, teams compete to cover the most ground with their team's colored ink. The new version adds more single-player story content, fresh maps and new weapons.

The series began in 2015 as Nintendo's attempt to enter the shooter market. Unlike games such as Call of Duty, Splatoon avoids blood and guns. Characters shoot ink instead of bullets. Matches focus on fun and strategy rather than realistic combat.

Nintendo designed the game to appeal to a wide audience, including younger players. Online matches include options to limit voice chat. The company added parental controls and easy-to-understand tutorials.

Splatoon 3 sold more than 3.5 million copies in its first three days on sale. It became one of the fastest-selling games on the Switch. Regular updates have added new events and paid downloadable content since launch.

The game runs on Nintendo's online service. Players need a subscription to join ranked matches or play with friends. Nintendo hosts regular Splatfests where the whole community votes on themes and competes in special battles.

Developers focused on making controls simple. Motion controls are optional but encouraged for better aiming. The game supports up to four players per team in standard battles.
