One Social Security Payment Arrives a Day Early This Month Because of Veterans Day
Because Veterans Day falls on a Wednesday payment date, one group of Social Security recipients will be paid on Tuesday, November 10. A 3.6 percent raise announced for 2027 does not change this month's check.
A small scheduling change means some Social Security recipients will see their November payment a day early. Benefits normally go out on a Wednesday tied to your birth date. This month one of those Wednesdays, November 11, is Veterans Day, a federal holiday. So that group is being paid the business day before.
Here is how the month breaks down, based on the Social Security Administration's 2026 payment calendar. People who began receiving benefits before May 1997, and those who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, were paid on Tuesday, November 3. People born from the 1st through the 10th of any month are paid on Tuesday, November 10, the date moved up for the holiday. Those born from the 11th through the 20th are paid on Wednesday, November 18. People born from the 21st through the 31st are paid on Wednesday, November 25.
If you receive Supplemental Security Income, note there is no separate SSI payment during November. That payment went out early, on Friday, October 30, because November 1 fell on a Sunday. The agency generally moves a payment to the business day before when the first of the month lands on a weekend or holiday.
Looking ahead, the Social Security Administration announced on October 14 that benefits will rise 3.6 percent in 2027. That cost of living adjustment starts with payments in January and does not change your November check. For the average retiree, it works out to about 75 dollars more a month, and it is the largest increase in four years.
You can see how the raise affects you before a paper letter arrives. Personalized notices showing your new benefit amount begin appearing in online my Social Security accounts in late November. If you would rather view it online than wait for a mailed letter, the agency has said you generally need to set up an account and choose paperless notices by November 18.
Knowing your payment date helps you plan around bills and automatic withdrawals, especially in a month when a holiday nudges one of the dates forward.
